Acer Aspire M5 583p 9688 Driver For Mac

Q. Here us a wifi driver question from a reader comment:

hello, coming to u again for some help, this time im upgrading athe hdd to an ssd on an Acer Aspire M5 583p-9688. here is a rundown on what ive attempted. cloned original hdd to ssd using paragon software ( was successful when i cloned the hdd for the asus laptop). physically swapped the drives. f12 settings changed UFEI boot settings to Legacy, placed SSD on top of the list as first to boot., saved and exit. and here is where the guys at my school helped out and took over, they installed windows 8.1 pro over my original 8.1 home pre through a usb drive. once they did that it successfully booted from the SSD, but it didnt have my original drivers, files, etc. so all the original drivers had to be reinstalled, they all worked well except for 1, the wifi driver. i could only connect via ethernet. i downloaded the wifi drivers from the acer website, didnt work, i tried to get them from my original hdd, and it didnt work. i am stuck and dont know what to do. im ready to follow any directions or tips u may have.

Best Buy has honest and unbiased customer reviews for Acer - Aspire M5. Not fit with my requirements for school and I returned it for a M5-583P-9688 and it was. But left for Geek Squad to load software on and they discovered the problem.

A. I have seen a lot of issues posted online with the wireless in that particular model (Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 network adapter) 🙁 However, the following driver download should solve your issue:

Atheros 10.0.0.234 wifi driver (the driver is listed as being for Windows 8, but it will work for 8.1 as well.

*if you have 32-bit Windows 8.1 installed please let me know as it may require a different driver.

Alternative: swap out the Atheros card for a faster Intel wifi adapter.

This is tested on the Acer Aspire M5-583P-9688 but should work on any M5-583P variant. You will need to replace the wifi/bt chip with some that is compatible. Personally I have done it with the Broadcom BCM4352 Azurewave AW-CE123H, because it is a 2 antenna half sized card so it perfectly replaces the intel stock one.

Hardware

  • CPU - I7-4500U - 4th Gen
  • Ram - 8gb - 2 slots
  • GPU - Intel HD4400
  • Drive - 1 240gb Sandisk AHCI/Sata SSD
  • Audio - Realtek ALC282
  • Ethernet - Realtek RTL8111 Series
  • wifi/bt - Azurewave AW-CE123H (Broadcom BCM4352)

Software

Used the Vanilla guide and the Internet Recovery install method

Config.plist (Removed some entries to protect my PC)

This is based on RehabMan's HD4400 Base config with some minor changes like a generated SMBIOS.

  • Requires Serial Number (ex. DFOWQLSGH8K)
  • Requires Board-ID (ex. Mac-D859C5498DA9EE9D)

Kext Explanation

  • ApplePS2SmartTouchPad - Slightly outdated kext to add basic gestures to the touchpad (Not great but it works well enough)
  • FakeSMC - Fakes the Mac firmware and such to the system (Always required for Hackintosh's)
  • Lilu - Allows patching of everything in the system
  • RealtekRTL8111 - Supports the ethernet driver used
  • USBInjectAll - Injects all USB ports into the system (Hacky needs to be fixed properly, but fine for now)
  • VoodooHDA - Not great audio driver that enables general audio support but normally not of high quailty (Replace soon with AppleALC)
  • WhateverGreen - Plugin for Lilu that fixes various GPU releated things in the system for AMD, Intel, Nvidia

TODO

  1. Map the USB Ports in the proper way instead of injecting them all.
  2. Get the Battery and Charging being detected (Requires DSDT patching) It isn't the end of the world because the charging hardware will still work properly and the charging indicator led works as well.
