Shuffle Slideshow Windows 10

Yesterday, I shared with you how to enable the wallpaper Slideshow feature in Windows 10 and how to get it to work when on your laptop battery. The Slideshow option is not a new feature as it has been in previous versions of Windows. In fact, some users noticed you cannot set your Slideshow faster than once a minute. Download ImageGlass: Windows 10. IrfanView is one of the most popular third-party image viewing apps and it is even our pick for the best photo viewer for Windows 10. It is named after the creator Irfan Sklijan and is free to use. The software is pretty light, intuitive and supports a large graphics file format base.

Windows 10 offers a simple slide show that displays one photo after another. It’s not fancy, but it’s a built-in way to show photos to friends crowding around your computer screen. Start the photos flowing across the screen in either of these two ways:

  • When in your Pictures folder, click the Manage tab and then click the Slide Show icon (shown here) from along the folder’s top.

  • When viewing a photo in the Photo app, click the Slide Show button from the row of six buttons along the photo’s top edge.

  • When viewing a single photo in Windows Photo Viewer, click the large, round Play Slide Show button (shown in the margin) from along the folder’s bottom center.

Windows immediately darkens the screen, fills the screen with the first picture, and then cycles through each picture in the folder.

Here are more tips for successful on-the-fly slide shows:

  • Before starting the slide show, rotate any sideways pictures, if necessary, so that they all appear right-side up: Right-click the problem photo and choose Rotate Right (Clockwise) or Rotate Left (Counterclockwise).

  • The slide show includes only photos in your current folder. It doesn’t dip into folders inside that folder and show their photos, too.

  • Select just a few of a folder’s pictures and click the Slide Show button to limit the show to just those pictures. (Hold down Ctrl while clicking pictures to select more than one.)

  • Feel free to add music to your slide show by playing a song in Media Player before starting your show. Or, if you picked up a Hawaiian CD while vacationing on the islands, insert that in your CD player to play a soundtrack during your vacation slide show.

Q: I’m using the “slide show” feature in Windows 7, but I can’t make it display the photos in the same order they are stored in a file folder. Instead, the photos are apparently displayed in random order. What can I do?

– Vic Erdmann, Minneapolis

A: Normally the Windows Media Center’s slide-show function displays photos in the order you selected them. But if the slide show is on the “shuffle” setting, it randomly displays the pictures.

To turn off the shuffle setting, play the slide show. On the left side of the controls is an icon for a list. Right click it to get a menu that includes “shuffle pictures.” Uncheck the box next to it, then click the slide show “play” button. Shuffle is now off.

You won’t have a “shuffle problem” if you create a slide show with Windows Photo Viewer. Just open the picture file, double-click any photo and the Photo Viewer appears. Click the middle button to start a slide show. The photos will appear in the order in which they appear in the file folder.

You can change the photos’ order in the folder (and slide show) by renaming them. Right-click the photo file and choose “rename” from the menu.

Or you reorder the photos with a pull-down menu at the upper right of the Windows Explorer screen. From the menu choose “details.” Columns labeled name, date, (file) type, size and tags (data attached to a photo) appear. Choose a heading to reorder the photo list.

Q: I tried to copy a couple of songs from a laptop to a CD I wanted to use in the car, but while the CD played fine on the laptop, it wouldn’t work in the car CD player. I used the drag-and-drop method to move the songs from my hard disk to the CD. What’s wrong?

A: In most cases, you can’t “drag and drop” files to create a music CD without special software.

You’ll need a program such as iTunes or Windows Media Player to convert the computer music files into files a CD player can read, in most cases WAV files (Waveform Audio File Format.)

Computers don’t use WAV files because they are large and take up too much disk storage space. Instead, they compress music into other types of files, such as MP3, WMA or AAC. When you drag and drop Windows files from the hard disk to the CD, you are only moving these computer files, not converting them to WAV.

The conversion is easy. When you burn a music CD, iTunes or Windows Media Player will ask whether you want to burn an audio or a data disk. Choose audio.
